Milwaukee has always been known as a beer town, but in recent years, the craft cocktail is finding a home in our fair city. Just like craft breweries have called Milwaukee home for many years, a new batch of distilleries are cropping up in our city like Great Lakes Distillery, Twisted Path Distillery, and Central Standard Distillery. Even Bittercube, which makes one of kind bitters, calls Milwaukee home. These companies have contributed to the craft cocktail scene in Milwaukee as well as the talented pool of bartenders like Boone & Crockett’s owner John Revord.
To celebrate this renaissance of creative concoctions, one week out of year has been dedicated to all things cocktail. That week is called Milwaukee Cocktail Week and it is happening Sept. 16 to Sept. 22. In honor of Milwaukee Cocktail Week, 88Nine asked John Revord to create 6 cocktails that were inspired by 6 Milwaukee artists and bands. For this unique challenge, the bands and artists were Light Music, The Living Statues, Paul Cebar, Whips, NAN (New Age Narcicissim), and Strehlow. Check out the cocktails that were created below. 1oz Orange Juice
.75oz Korbel Brandy
.5oz Tempus Fugit Creme de Cacao a la Vanille
.5oz Lemon Juice
.5oz Honey Simple Syrup
Directions: Combine ingredients and shake with ice. Serve over ice with an Orange Wheel.
2oz Jack Daniel’s
.5oz Gypsy Mitch Coke Simple Syrup
.5oz Ransom Sweet Vermouth
.25 Maurin Quina Liqueur
1 dash Bittercube Blackstrap Bitters
Directions: Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and stir with ice. Strain into a Coupe glass rinsed with Fernet Branca. Twist a lemon and discard. Garnish with a Luxardo Cherry.
1.5oz Art in the Age Root
.5oz Rye Whiskey
.5oz Orange Juice
.5oz Lemon Juice
.5oz Heavy Cream
.25oz Nux Alpina Walnut Liqueur
.25oz Bittercube Pineapple Vanilla Simple Syrup
Directions: Combine ingredients and dry shake (no ice). Add ice and shake again. Double strain into a Collins Glass over ice. Top with Seltzer. Garnish with Nutmeg and a Turbinado Sugar dipped Orange Wheel.
2oz Great Lakes Distillery Kinnickinnic Whiskey
.75oz Grade A Maple Syrup
3 dashes Bittercube Cherry Bark Vanilla Bitters
Directions: Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and stir with ice. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a twist of orange and a Luxardo Cherry.
1.5oz Ransom Old Tom Gin
1oz Carpano Antica Vermouth
.5oz Gypsy Mitch White Pepper Simple Syrup
.25 Elisir Novasalus Vino Amaro
1 dash Bittercube Cherry Bark Vanilla Bitters
Directions: Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and stir with ice. Strain into a Coupe Glass. Garnish with a flamed Orange Twist.
1.5oz Silver Tequila
.75oz Lime Juice
. 25oz Ancho Reyes Ancho Pepper Liqueur
2 dashes Bittercube Jamaica #2 Bitters
Modelo Especial Cerveza
Combine ingredients and shake with ice. Strain into an ice filled Collins Glass and top with Modelo. Garnish with a lime wheel and a pinch of salt.
